French Farmhouse Evokes Provincial Charm With a Vintage Modern Touch
French farmhouse design has a distinct yet timeless spirit that brings a sense of comfort and simplicity, calling to mind the humble, pastoral living of centuries past. Domaine de la Cavaliere, a 17th century chateau yielding wine, olive oil, honey, and organic produce, offers a present day glimpse into old world provincial life.
The enchanting 100 acre estate is nestled against the Luberon mountains of Provence, surrounded by vineyards and picturesque landscapes. To repair and restore the aged farmhouse, designerKen Fulk lended his talents, bringing the structure up to date and adding a mix of modern and vintage furnishings.
The property features a dining room, two kitchens, eight bedrooms, several living rooms, a library, and wine cave. The former barn now serves as guest quarters and a caretaker’s studio. Take a peek inside the splendid Domaine de la Cavaliere.

This kitchen is the definition of cozy. A burning fireplace, vintage cow paintings, farmhouse dome pendants and furniture all work perfectly together to create a homey and inviting atmosphere. The stack of logs and classic candlesticks add a warm touch.
I love all the mismatched, uncommon furniture throughout the rooms. Each chair, table lamp, art piece, and vase adds personality and looks like it has a story to tell. Sculptures help add dimension and visual weight (I’m loving the mustached man bust in the upper right photo). The careful mix of furniture and objects captures the essence of french farmhouse design.

Deep purple hues and rich caramel tones punctuate the home from the interior drapes and leather furniture to the exterior doors and window shutters. The rustic flooring stays true to the buildings authentic, worn-in materials. I love the tall stack of books underneath and on top the open nightstand. The decor isn’t fussy but still achieves a humble elegance.

After finding this gem, I’m left enamored with the charm of French farmhouse design. I don’t know about you, but I would love to bring a taste of this Domaine to my own home.
